Disease Control

- Dangers of Pet Waste Accumulation

Common diseases that can be transmitted to dogs, cats and people through feces include E coli, salmonella, giardia and roundworms. In addition, your dog can spread or contract parvovirus or coronavirus through infected feces. One gram of dog waste contains over 20 million coliform bacteria. All of these diseases are serious and common and every effort should be made by pet owners to keep their pets, family and friends protected from infected feces.

Fly Control

Flies will consume and lay eggs in feces. These same flies will then fly into your home carrying and spreading disease as they land on your body, counters and food. Need we say more about keeping feces cleaned up to prevent this chronic cycle?

Myths about animal waste breakdown

It takes over a year for pet waste to breakdown in moderate, rainy climates. In desert landscapes, where waste dehydrates and may even petrify, it can stay passively toxic for years; with each rain softening the matter - emitting odor and fueling bacteria again and again. It’s essential to your health to remove biological waste from your outdoor space on a regular basis. Remember, if you pick up a scent, you’re breathing fecal molecules which are entering your system through your lungs.

Preventing Stool Eating

While most dog owners think this doesn't apply to their dog, the shocking truth is that most dogs will engage in this unsavory practice at some point in their life. Dogs evolved as carnivore scavengers and feces were considered fair game in lean times. To prevent this occasional indiscretion from becoming a life-long habit, remove feces as soon as possible, especially with young and rescue dogs, for whom the problem is most prevalent. At the first sign of this bad habit consider adding an oral product like Dis-Taste to your dog's food to decrease the palatability of the stools.
